New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Abdelmounaim Boutouil has opened up about his historic transfer from the Botola Pro.

The 24-year-old Morrocan defender joined the club last month but was officially unveiled on transfer deadline day after finally receiving his international clearance certificate.

His signing from SCC Mohammédia, said to be in the region of R7-million on a three-year deal with an option to extend for another two seasons, makes him the first player to arrive in the PSL from the Moroccan top flight.

“I am feeling very happy to join one of the biggest clubs in Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns,” he told the club’s official website.

“My goal is to win all the local cups in the PSL and what’s very important for me and for the club is winning the Champions League. I am the first Moroccan player to come play in South Africa, [therefore] I am here to represent my country as a Sundowns player.

The left-footed central defender who won the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with Morocco spent last season on loan at Raja Athletic Club.
