New party MIV targets Limpopo water crisis, bad roads amid Molemole graft probe

A brand-new political party has entered the fray in Limpopo with a promise – fix the taps, fix the roads, and fix the local economy that has left residents stranded.

The Molemole Independent Voice (MIV), formed just two months ago, says it is not interested in big political slogans. It wants to contest four wards across Molemole, Blouberg and Polokwane municipalities in the November local government elections on the back of service delivery.

The party says it was born out of frustration over water shortages that have become permanent, access roads so bad that ambulances cannot reach villages, and clinics that are too far for the sick to reach.

MIV spokesperson Moyahabo Mapokgole said the movement has already identified its two biggest battles.

“We do have challenges of water infrastructure and have practical solutions and devices that are going to solve the problems and issues of access roads, because residents can’t get access to basic transportation and healthcare ambulances,” Mapokgole said.

It is a lived reality in villages across Molemole and Blouberg, where a burst pipe can mean weeks without water and a single heavy rain cuts off entire communities from taxis and emergency vehicles.

But MIV will have to do more than diagnose the problem. Voters have heard the same promises before, and the party has not yet explained what its practical devices are, who will pay for them, and how a small party with four ward candidates will force municipalities to implement them.

Beyond water and roads, the party says it wants to make local economic development (LED) actually work.

Mapokgole said MIV wants to push residents to write proper business plans and give them practical tools to survive, not just grants and talk shops.

The plan includes workshops and seminars for aspiring entrepreneurs to improve their skills and build sustainable businesses.

Again, the details are thin – who will train them, where the funding will come from, and what happens after the workshop ends remain unanswered.

The party says all will be revealed on October 24, when it plans to publicly unveil its manifesto. According to Mapokgole, it will either be published online or launched live in Botlokwa at a venue referred to as Naughty Mphakane. Final arrangements are still being confirmed.

Molemole Municipality, where it wants to contest, is still reeling from a major corruption scandal. In April 2026, the Hawks arrested four senior officials over alleged fraud and corruption involving municipal procurement and tender irregularities.

The financial impact is still being verified and the arrests do not establish guilt, but it has deepened distrust over where infrastructure money goes.

That is the vacuum MIV is trying to fill – a municipality under investigation for tender fraud while residents still queue for water trucks.

Residents want to know how a broken water pump in Ramokgopa will be fixed, how a collapsed gravel road to a clinic in Blouberg will be graded, and how a young person with a business idea in Polokwane will actually get help beyond a workshop.

MIV says it has practical solutions. On October 24 in Botlokwa, it will have to prove it.

Until then, it is the newest name on Limpopo’s crowded ballot, zooming in on the oldest problems – water, roads and jobs – that bigger parties have failed to fix.
