Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has thanked the club’s supporters for their role in helping him win the 2021/22 DStv Premiership Goal of the Season.

Ngcobo, 22, capped off an indifferent season with Amakhosi with a top honour for his incredible long-range strike against Sekhukhune United in a 2-1 win at FNB Stadium back in December.

With only two goals and a single assist in 18 games during this past season, nine of which were starts, ‘Mshini’ was largely on the periphery of the first-team squad with former head coach Stuart Baxter admitting not being able to find a tactical system to get the best out of the academy graduate.

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi even suggested that he could have been a Premier Soccer League (PSL) Footballer of the Season contender with the potential he showed during the 2020/21 campaign where Amakhosi went on the way to the CAF Champions League final.

Despite the setback, his award will no doubt do him a much-needed boost of confidence going into the new season and he issued a word of gratitude to the Amakhosi faithful for voting for his effort.

“I was happy to be nominated and was hoping to be voted the winning goal. People from all quarters, from Amakhosi supporters to family members, kept updating me that they are voting,” Ngcobo told the club’s official website.

“I am very happy and proud of myself and I think it was a good goal. I thank everyone who voted, Amakhosi supporters and my teammates who helped me to score the goal.”

The 22-year-old is expected to play a major role under the new leadership of head coach Arthur Zwane next season as they embark on a new journey after Baxter’s second exit.
