Tlisane Motaung is far from ready to accept defeat for Pretoria University in the GladAfrica Championship title race, insisting they have to stay focused as Tuks try to catch Richards Bay at the top of the table.

The youthful coach has sent a strong warning to Richards Bays, saying it will go down to the wire for the GladAfrica Championship winner to be decided, despite dropping two valuable points on Sunday after they were held to a two-all draw by Cape Town Spurs.

The frustrating stalemate saw AmaTuks remain second on the log with 51 points while their competitors Richards Bay occupy the summit with 53 points after defeating TS Sporting 2-1. The KZN side’s victory confirmed TS Sporting’s demise, relegating them to the amateur third tier.

“It’s not over; we still got a game at home against Hungry Lions though dropping two points because Richards Bay got three points,” Motaung said.

“It’s going to be a mountain to climb, but we need to really focus on the last match. We have to fight.” The 37-year-old further praised his boys for putting up a brave fight after there was a stomach bug outbreak in their camp on the morning of the matchday.

“We didn’t have a good game; I cannot fault the boys; it was difficult, especially in the morning; 70% of our players had a stomach bug. We had to ask some of the players to take part despite difficult circumstances. I’m proud of the boys,” he added.

“It was a difficult game; for us taking a draw here was not good; we wanted three points.” The final round of GladAfrica Championship matches will be played on 15 May. AmaTuks will tackle Hungry Lions whilst Rich Natal Boys take Cape Town Spurs.
