Morocco beat Brazil for the first time in their history with a 2-1 win at the Grand Stade de Tanger on Saturday evening.

Soufiane Boufal, Abdelhamid Sabiri found the net on either side of Casemiro’s equaliser shortly after the hour mark which proved another massive step for the North Africans.

Having become the first African nation to reach the semi-final stage of the FIFA World Cup in the 2022 showpiece in Qatar, the Atlas Lions are proving their rise is no fluke.

Genk wonderkid Bilal El Khannouss was one of the standout players as he came off from the bench, aged 18, to assist Sabiri’s winner, as the positivity surrounding Walid Regragui’s side reaches an all-time high.

With as many as five Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers being played in the country, with several nations – whose facilities have not met the requirements of the Confederation of African Football – it’s been a major boost for their 2025 AFCON bid hopes.

However, with Group K only having three teams due to Zimbabwe’s expulsion, Morocco scheduled matches against the Selecao and Peru as Bafana Bafana and Liberia engaged in their doubleheader.

The 2-2 draw in Orlando Stadium paved the way for an early qualification, as the Lone Stars and Bafana now battle it out in Monrovia on Tuesday to join Morocco at the continental event in Ivory Coast next year.
