Baroka FC Boss Khurishi Mphahlele has revealed how their former CEO Morgan Mammila has always wanted to be a coach, but the club stood in his way.
Mammila, who holds a CAF C Coaching License, is the head coach at Chippa United.
He spent four seasons at Baroka as CEO before his surprise departure in 2019 to join the Chilli Boys in the same capacity. But in recent times, Mammila has become a coach who has had stints at Chippa as well as Moroka Swallows [as technical advisor].
He was in charge of the Chilli Boys last season but, like many others, was fired after a string of poor results.
WHAT KHURISHI MPHAHLELE SAYS ABOUT HIS FORMER CEO
“Morgan Mammila, I love him, and he is my boy. He is carrying our flag there in the Eastern Cape,” said Mphahlele when asked about Mammila’s sudden change of career path.
“He is one of us, and I know he likes to coach because he used to want to go to the dressing room [while at Baroka]. It’s in his blood, and I wish him all the best.”
BAROKA FC OPPRESSED COACH MORGAN MAMMILA
“That’s what he has always wanted to do all the time, even when he was here. Actually, we were oppressing him because he wanted to go to the dressing room, but we said no,” revealed Mphahlele.
“So there he is, free to go to the dressing room, and he is getting what he wants. I am sure he is also happy; you can see that he is happy, he likes the media [and] he talks a lot.”
Meanwhile, Mammila registered his first win of the season after beating Cape Town Spurs 1-0 on Friday. It was his first win at the club since his return to the hot seat at the beginning of the season. The Chilli Boys will now host Royal AM on Wednesday, 30 August.
They currently occupy position eight on the DStv Premiership log standings.
