Thabang Monare could be set for a surprise return to Orlando Pirates despite being released by the club last month.
Monare, 32, was confirmed as one of the players leaving Pirates in an official statement in June after failing to agree terms for a contract extension.
AmaZulu, SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United were among the interested suitors with the latter having tabled an official offer for the South Africa international.
iDiski Times were reliably informed that Monare and his camp did not respond to the offer tabled by Babina Noko and reports have now emerged that a return to Pirates is on the cards.
With the Buccaneers recently unveiling Jose Riveiro as their new head coach, a report in Soccer Laduma stated that the Spaniard is keen to assess the player during pre-season.
When contacted Monare’s representative Mirko Agnelli for a comment, he stated there’s nothing to say at the moment but in the next few weeks they will have a clearer idea over his future.
The player himself also posted a cryptic message on social media on Friday morning pictured in the Soweto giants’ colours with their famous tagline ‘once always’ amid the media speculation.
Monare made 52 appearances for Pirates since joining the club from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits and earned a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad under Hugo Broos earlier this year after some impressive form during the 2021/22 campaign.
