Mokotjo Set For Eredivisie Switch?

South Africa international midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo could be landing a contract with Eredivisie side FC Twente, technical director Jan Streuer has suggested.

Mokotjo, 31, has been a free agent since leaving Major League Soccer (MLS) side FC Cincinnati, where his contract was bought out while he was recovering from a meniscal injury.

He then resurfaced in the Netherlands with his former club Twente, where he was allowed to embark on his recovery period with the club assessing him as a potential new signing for the upcoming season.

“The intention when he came here was that he was fit around March. That was not the case. Now he will have to be fit and show that he is top fit to be eligible for a contract,” Streuer told 1Twente Enschede.

“He knows exactly [what] the situation [is]. If he’s fit, he’s a very good player for us. That’s the situation. We’re going to see what we’re going to do when he’s really fit. He’s definitely a serious option.”

Mokotjo represented the club for three years, amassing 103 appearances, scoring three goals and registering 15 assists before his €1-million transfer to Brentford in July 2017.
