Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has lauded Peter Shalulile after he became the first player to net back-to-back hat-tricks in DStv Premiership history.

The 28-year-old striker is in the form of his life after netting trebles against Swallows and Golden Arrows in his last two league games which took his overall tally to 21 goals.

It’s the first time in a decade a player reached the 20-goal milestone when Siyabonga Nomvethe netted 20 for Swallows in the 2011/12 season – and Mngqithi suggests that it’s all about his application, dedication and unselfishness that his teammates appreciate – which is why they work so hard to set him up for goals.

“When opportunity meets hard work, I think they are referring to a player like Peter because he gives his heart and soul to the team, he gives everything to the club and when a player gives so much, that’s why he ends up getting more,” he told SuperSport TV.

“And the other players are also willing to pass to him because they know he’s a very good team player and the camaraderie and team spirit amongst the team is good. We a really excited about what these boys are offering.”

Mngqithi also went on to state the numbers don’t lie and their recent domination in the league is fully warranted based on the output of the current squad.

“I would like to give credit to the boys, I think they are really showing their hunger and interest, the intensity of the game is good,” he said.

“The mileage we covered in the first half was looking very good, possession was good, numbers of passes completed was good, all the box entries, all the stats proved they really wanted it more. No wonder they scored three goals in 30 minutes and we really appreciated that.”

Sundown travel to Angola on Wednesday ahead of their first leg CAF Champions League quarter-final against Petro de Luanda on Saturday afternoon.
