Mngqithi – Downs Won’t Underestimate Maritzburg

After claiming all three points against TS Galaxy midweek, Mamelodi Sundowns turn their focus to Maritzburg United whom they will face on Saturday in the DStv Premiership.

The two teams meet at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday evening, and while there is a 33 point gap between the two sides, with Maritzburg in twelfth position, Mgnqithi says there should be no complacency.

Mngqithi believe there’s still a long way for the title to be clinched even though Masandawana are 18 points clear.

“Its another very tough match that we must prepare very well for these wounded teams can be very dangerous,” Mngqithi told the club’s media department.

“Maritzburg United has not been at their best, we would not want them to come back against us but we believe our players understand how important it is to give their best and give the respect that is required and never develop any elements of complacency, because our journey is still very long and we have a very big responsibility to still represent our badge with pride.

“I believe still far from being clinched but it’s not even our focus at this stage because we don’t want to derail ourselves and focus on the championship when we could focus on our own benchmarks.

“Because we want to achieve better than what we achieved last year, we want to do better than what we even did in the previous seasons, so our responsibility is not on what is happening in the championship at the moment but more on what we think is important for Sundowns to make sure that we always better our best records.”

With Mamelodi Sundowns having a tight schedule of games, the Masandawana mentor has explained the importance of recovery.

“They understand that we’ve got our own regeneration protocols that we follow,” he added.

“We are a team that is very serious on making sure that we make sure we recover fully, we get as much rest as possible in the smallest possible moments that we get in between matches but we have a responsibility to do the best we can to sure we recover and to get the body of our players back and we are strong at all times.”
