Former Orlando Pirates captain Thabo Mngomeni has made an ominous prediction for the Soweto giants and other challengers for the DStv Premiership, as he is of the belief that Mamelodi Sundowns will win the league for the next decade!
Speaking exclusively to iDiski Times journalist Rob Delport, the former Bafana Bafana star says teams like Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, who were so dominant in his playing days, have been left behind by Sundowns.
The 52-year-old believes that Sundowns are set to continue their domination over the next decade.
“I’ve got a feeling that Sundowns is going to take the League for this next decade, not just for the next half decade that is coming,” Mngomeni told iDiski Times.
“You see now they’ve taken the league five times. So now leave that five, start from afresh, from this decade, starting from now, Sundowns is going to win the league again for the next 10 years!”
Mngomeni also says that other clubs should be learning and copying what Masandawana are doing right, and he’s not referring to Sundowns’ transfer policy, but rather the structures the club has put in place, and their use of former Sundowns players in every department.
“And then what hurts me most are the so called big teams, who doesn’t want to copy from our own people, what is right,” Mngomeni continued.
“Because who can’t see that us too can do our own jobs brilliantly, just like any other white person?
“What I wanted actually to say, is you can notice what Sundowns has done – every every department of your Sundowns, there’s a former Sundowns player who was playing for Sundowns.
“They are using almost everybody that was with the team.
“Unlike Orlando Pirates, when you look at the office there, you don’t know all those people that are there and what what?”
Sundowns are on course to win their fifth straight league, and it would be their seventh league title in nine years. In the two seasons they did not win (2014/2015 and 2016/2017) they finished as runners-up.
