Kaizer Chiefs have completed the signing of Lamontville Golden Arrows winger Pule Mmodi, iDiski Times has learnt.
The 30-year-old, who was recently part of Hugo Broos’ preliminary Bafana Bafana squad, joined Arrows at the beginning of 2020/21 season from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Uthongathi FC, but his contract was running out in the end of June.
He has been a wanted man in South Africa, as Amakhosi were already close to signing Mmodi at the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign, but both side’s couldn’t agree on a deal at the time.
In January, Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu FC also showed interest in the player but again no move materialised.
According to our sources in KwaZulu-Natal-Zulu Natal, Mmodi was not at Arrows’ training session on Tuesday, as the club started their 2023/24 pre-season.
Instead he has already started pre-season with his new club at Naturena after penning a three-year contract with Chiefs.
“Pule Mmodi has signed with Kaizer Chiefs, it’s a matter of unveiling him now. The deal is done. He is a Chiefs player,” a source confirmed to this publication.
The former Uthongathi midfielder had a season to remember at Arrows, scoring six goals and assisting on three occasions in 31 appearances, netting in four successive games between August and September 2022 – which at the time earned him his Bafana debut against Sierra Leone.
Mmodi is expected to be Chiefs’ fifth signing following Mduduzi Mdantsane, Given Msimango, Edson Castillo and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, but so far the club has only announced the latter’s arrival.
