Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu has assured the community of Verulam and surrounding areas in the eThekwini municipality that the water crisis will be resolved before February 15.

This as residents from Phoenix and Verulam north of Durban embarked on protests, calling for intervention by the national department for the endless water crisis.

Mchunu and Ethekwini municipality officials addressed members of the community to provide an update regarding water supply challenges.

Mchunu says a team has been established to help alleviate the problem.

“This team that we have established today across stakeholders is going to be meeting as they have been doing two days in a week to make sure that we meet our deadline on the 15th to normalise the situation here at Tongaat, Phoenix and other areas.”

“In fact, we have already started at Tongaat and things are better and then we have to deal with Phoenix and other townships around here and I am going to add myself to make sure that things happen the way we want them to happen.”
