Matlou – Nigeria Will Want Revenge

Ahead of Monday’s WAFCON game against Nigeria, Banyana Banyana defender has warned that Banyana will need to be at their best as the Super Falcons will want revenge.

In their last meeting, in Lagos, Nigeria, Banyana pulled off a historic 4-2 win, a result that surprised many as Banyana won the inaugural Aisha Buhari Cup.

The two rivals also met twice in the 2018 WAFCON, with Banyana winning 1-0 in the group stages, before losing the goalless final in a penalty shootout.

Matlou told Lethabo Kganyago in an interview in the latest edition of iDiski Times, that in recent times Nigeria has only beaten Banyana on penalties, so they could have the advantage.

“If you can remember Nigeria recently has never beaten us in 90 minutes, it’s either we win, or like the last time, we went to the penalties,” Matlou told iDiski Times.

“Last year we won at the Aisha Buhari Cup, so it is an advantage for us even though there is no game that is going to be easy, remember Nigeria will want revenge.

“So we just have to go there and play our normal game, and do our best.

“It’s not only Nigeria, people are concerned about Nigeria, you can look at the underdog Botswana, they are coming there very hard, and football in Botswana is growing.

“So it shows that in our group there is no team that is going to be easy and especially when teams are playing South Africa, they come hard on us.”

The WAFCON kicks off tonight as hosts Morocco take on Burkina Faso in the opening game of the tournament.
