Bongane Gregory Shebi, 24, accused of stabbing a nurse to death, reportedly abandoned his bail application in Chweizer-Reneke magistrate’s court on Wednesday, 15 February.
According to News24, on 12 October 2022, Iris Mamotlakana Mohokare, an assistant manager at a local clinic, was stabbed and killed in her rented room in Ipeleng.
LANDLORD FOUND DEAD NURSE IN HER FLAT
Her bloodied body was discovered by her landlord, William Mpempe, who called the police.

Witnesses told police that they saw Shebi with bloodied clothes near the murder scene.
SUSPECT ARRESTED
Shebi was arrested and allegedly confessed to being involved in the murder and showed police where he dumped the blood-stained clothes. However, he denied stabbing Mohokare.

He claimed that he was with another person, but the motive became clear only after the accused confessed that he and another person intended to rob the deceased. He also claims that he was not the one who stabbed the deceased, but rather the person he was with.
THE ACCUSED ABANDONS BAIL APPLICATION
Times Live reported that police discovered that Shebi’s statement contradicted the evidence.
“The police have indicated that evidence that was obtained at the scene indicates that only one person was at the scene at the time of the offence,” the report quoted National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Henry Mamothame as saying.

The case was postponed until 14 April to await DNA results and for the director of public prosecutions to authorise the accused’s transfer to a higher court.
Shebi abandoned his bail application and remains in police custody until the matter is concluded.
