Mammila – What I Told Mulenga After Misses Vs Downs

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila has revealed what he told Augustine Mulenga after he missed a couple of chances in the defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The reigning champions eased to a 2-0 win, which never really looked troubled after goals by Aubrey Modiba and an own-goal by Justice Chabalala in the first half.

Chippa had a few chances, in particular Mulenga, but were not able to find the back of the net. However, Mammila revealed he gave the former Orlando Pirates forward some support after the match.

“I was encouraging him,” he told SuperSport TV.

“Once you always there in the kitchen you will end up getting something to eat. He’s always there, sometimes he creates by himself, it was just a matter of shooting, he trusts himself too much.

“But back to training on Monday, we’ll rectify [our mistakes] and I’m looking forward to the next game on Friday, where we can rectify all the mistakes.”

Despite the defeat, Mammila was happy with his side’s effort, especially how they started the match.

“On thing for sure, we gave it all, credit to my boys they played according to instructions,” he added.

“We wanted Sundowns not to dominate from the first five to 10 minutes and we did that. They couldn’t’ even combine four or five passes together because we were all over them.

“As I said, we’re not a defensive team, we press from the top again. As I said before the match, I said the only difference is Sundowns are clinical.

“It’s my job as a coach to make sure that the players pass the back of the net. It’s a work in progress.”

Chippa will now face Cape Town Spurs on Friday, while Sundowns face Richards Bay on Wednesday already.
