Outgoing DA member Makashule Gana says he’s leaving the party to focus on changing the country’s current political culture.

He says the DA is not aligning with that purpose.

Gana has resigned from the opposition after 20 years in the party.

He joined the DA he was just 19 years old and served in various positions.

“For me, it’s a decision that took a bit of time, I think it was the end of last year but I want to reflect on it… what’s currently in Kagiso brings to light or the surface what’s wrong with South Africa now.”

“Many South Africans live in fear, the current politics, the culture of politics is failing the people, and this is the culture that we need to change,” he said.

“Seeing where South Africa and looking at where the DA is and trying to, I believe that it’s time in SA for a new political alternative, an alternative that’s on the people, on the communities.”
