Mike Makaab has revealed that several Premier Soccer League clubs have shown their interest in Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Kearyn Baccus.
The 30-year-old’s contract with Chiefs is set to expire in June after the former Melbourne City central midfielder joined Amakhosi at the beginning of the 2019/20 season.
Makaab had previously stated that Chiefs had not approached Baccus for contract talks, leading him to believe the midfielder might have to find a new club. However, following a few more appearances for the Glamour Boys there is hope that Baccus potentially even stays at Naturena.
The player’s agent, though, insisted they will wait for Chiefs to sort out their coaching situation but also confirmed Baccus has other options in South Africa.
“Again we just have to wait and see what the intentions are for Kaizer Chiefs but we have interest in Kearyn (Baccus) from a number of clubs in the country,” he said on Gagasi FM with Simtho Dladla.
“But again, I am going to say that we are first and foremost looking at whether Chiefs are keen on his services or not.
“It would be unfair for us to put pressure on them now, given the fact that there’s a new coaching team taken over and let’s see what the plans are for the new season in terms of the new coaching staff.
“I don’t have to tell you that when you are in limbo in terms of coaching personnel it’s very difficult for you as a football club to sell players and bring a new coach in.
“In an ideal situation you wanna bring in a new coach and then decide on your squad that’s what the difficulty is when you unsettled with your coaching staff.”
The 30-year-old has managed to make nine appearances this season, but he did feature in five of the last nine games.
