  • A major multi-vehicle crash has forced the complete closure of the R28 northbound in Krugersdorp.
  • Emergency services are on-site, and motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
  • Additional rolling road closures linked to convoy movements are also contributing to congestion across Johannesburg.

Motorists are urged to avoid the R28 due to a major multiple-vehicle accident in Krugersdorp.

There has been a severe accident involving multiple vehicles on the R28 in Krugersdorp, which has led to heavy traffic and road closures near the N14 and the Hendrick Potgieter intersection.

Due to the severity of the incident, the R28 northbound is completely closed to traffic until further notice.

Emergency services are on the scene, and motorists are urged to avoid the R28 Krugersdorp area and seek alternative routes.

“Expect significant delays surrounding the accident scene. Exercise extreme caution, maintain safe following distances, and remain patient, as traffic volumes are expected to remain high throughout the region,” said Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Xolani Fihla.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are deployed and actively monitoring critical transport routes across the City of Johannesburg and surrounding areas.

This increased visibility comes in response to heavy convoy movements heading towards the Nasrec precinct.

Motorists are advised that rolling road closures are in place to facilitate these movements, and residual congestion may still be present on affected routes.
