Orlando Pirates attacking talisman Thembinkosi Lorch suffered a hip injury in training which ruled him out of contention against Cape Town City.
With TS Galaxy and Royal AM league encounters next before the Nedbank Cup semi-final against Kaizer Chiefs, the new comes as a blow to the Buccaneers.
iDiski Times has been informed the 29-year-old suffered a blow to his hip during training this week and was subsequently ruled out but head coach Jose Riveiro waved away any long-term issues.
“No drama, you’re forcing me to talk about an individual player and injuries, which is not my strength and favourite scenario, but Lorch is an important player, it goes without saying but again today you see the group taking responsibility and performing well,” Riveiro said when asked about Lorch’s injury blow.
“We hoping to see him back as soon as possible and actually I think it’s a minor thing but it happened too close to the game so we didn’t have a margin to solve it – so yeah, we’re happy with him, he’s finding joy during the games and during the week [at training] and we all benefit from that obviously.”
Lorch has scored three goals in eight games since returning from his knee injury and will be hoping to be back to full fitness for the Soweto Derby next month.
