Limpopo Police Commissioner joins foot chase to arrest an undocumented foreign national
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers has demonstrated hands-on leadership just days into his new role by joining a foot chase and helping apprehend a fleeing suspect in Modimolle.
While travelling through the town with his management team on unannounced police station visits, Scheepers spotted an officer pursuing a suspect on foot. He immediately stopped his vehicle, got out, and joined the chase, assisting in the successful arrest. The individual was later identified as an undocumented foreign national.
The South African Police Service described the incident as a reflection of the commissioner’s commitment to supporting members on the ground and upholding the law without fear or favour. Scheepers, who officially assumed the post on 1 August 2026 after nearly four decades in policing, succeeds the retired Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
The arrest comes amid ongoing provincial efforts to enforce immigration laws and combat crime, including recent multi-disciplinary operations that have netted large numbers of undocumented foreign nationals.
