Mamelodi Sundowns defender Lyle Lakay set to complete his loan to Cape Town City and has arrived for his medicals with the club on Wednesday.
Lakay is familiar with City, as he first joined them back in July 2017 from Bloemfontein Celtic. But after just 12 months with club and making 35 appearances, Sundowns came knocking for his signature and he completed a move to Chloorkop in July 2018.
He went on to make 162 appearances in all competitions for Masandawana, scoring on 13 occasionsand setting up 26 more from the left-back position.
The 31-year-old won four league titles, one Telkom Knockout, one MTN8 and one Nedbank Cup with Downs but fell down the pecking order this season.
But, as earlier reported by this publication, Lakay will be loaned back to City before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
On Wednesday, he will fly down to Cape Town to do his medicals and complete his loan move to City, a source close to the club told iDiski Times.
At City, the reigning Defender of the Season will fill the gap of Terrence Mashego, who completed a move the other way last week. Lakay will become the Citizens fourth signing this window after they secured Marc Van Heerden – another left-back, Wayde Lakay and Jordan Bender.
