Kwinika: Change Is Coming – iDiski Times

Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has acknowledged they have not been good enough for some time but fortunes will change soon as they are putting things together.

Amakhosi’s hope of winning a trophy to end eight years of barren were crushed when they controversially lost to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 second leg semi final at Lucas Moripe Stadium last weekend.

They were denied what was a clear penalty in the last minute when Thapelo Maseko appeared to kick Mduduzi Mdantsane at the back, but referee Luxolo Badi saw the challenge as not enough to call for the penalty spot.

“To be honest with you, I’m very happy with the performance of the boys,” said Kwinika.

“You see sometimes when you are not realistic in a way, without fooling anyone, I’m very happy with the performance of the boys – the way we are getting together, we are creating chances, it’s just lady luck.

“We are in the process and we trust everything will be okay. We are sticking together and one day we will have a different conversation about this one.”

As the MTN8 trophy will now be contested between Sundowns and Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, the venue Chiefs last won a knockout trophy was also the Wafa Wafa Cup in 2014, Amakhosi’s other chance to wrestle a cup this year is the Carling Cup that is set to be launch in the next coming days.

Kwinika was part of Chiefs side that won the MTN8 in 2014 under Stuart Baxter after he was promoted alongside with Hendrick Ekstein, but did not feature in that season at all where they also won the league title 2015.

He knows what needs to happen to get back to those glory days of Amakhosi.

“Winning is always ultimate and the important part of it is the process,” said Kwinika, who returned to the club at the beginning of last season from Stellenbosch FC.

“How we do it, how we train, how we transfer to the game – that is a process. The winning is at the end. What is important is for us to do what we need to do to get the results because in football there is a win, a draw and there is a loss.

“Not all the time you would win games but we wish to get that which is not possible. But what is important it’s us doing the small things properly to stand a chance to get there.”

Amakhosi are already on the back foot yet again in chasing Sundowns for the league title, who have won all the opening eight league matches, matching Chiefs’ record of that which Chiefs did in the 2014/15 season.

The Soweto giants, having played the same number of games, have stuttered as they have collected 11 points, 13 points behind the Tshwane giants.
