Daine Klate’s agent, John Wilson says he was “not surprised” after Chippa United parted ways with his client on Thursday morning, insisting “there’s a lack of foresight in the club”.
Wilson added Klate was left disappointed by the club’s decision to fire him, as they signed the majority of the youngsters at the beginning of the season, with many of them promoted from the DStv Diski Challenge team.
Klate, appointed on 11 July, was relieved of his duties after Chippa United suffered a 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday, as earlier reported by iDiski Times.
They lost the match despite having frustrated Downs for the large part until Peter Shalulile ghosted in the last minute to score the goal that left Klate heartbroken along with his team and ultimately lead to his sacking

“Daine has shown that he has the ability to lead a team as a coach, it’s disappointing especially as the team were getting to understand Daine’s philosophy and style of play,” Wilson told iDiski Times exclusively.
“Yes, the results weren’t there yet but that takes time and backing from the club. I thought it was a very brave and disciplined performance against Sundowns.
“Unfortunately, it’s the same story, a different chapter with the hierarchy of Chippa United. Daine is obviously grateful for the opportunity he had to coach at this level. It’s just disappointing that he was not afforded the opportunity to show what he can do with a relatively inexperienced squad.”
Klate becomes the second coach sacked by Chippa in two seasons represented by Wilson after owner Chippa Mpengesi also fired Gavin Hunt last term.
Hunt, unlike Klate, lasted a little longer, as he was in charge of 10 matches. But just like Klate, Hunt won only one match.
“I’m not surprised, I’m just disappointed. Once again, the lack of foresight by the club,” Wilson added.
Wilson also said the club has yet to officially confirm that they want to part ways with Klate as it was only verbally communicated so far.
Once the official letter comes through, they will the discuss the issue of the settlement, another hurdle he will face against Chippa looking at what happened with Hunt.
“Going forward, we’ll assess things in the next couple of weeks and hopefully get the right move for him. He has definitely proved that he has the qualities to be a very successful coach,” Wilson concluded.
