Khanye Makes Mbule Claim – iDiski Times

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Sipho Mbule was not mentally ready to play in their DStv Premiership draw at Stellenbosch FC after the news around him last week.

The midfielder was named in the squad following a week of reports suggesting he and Andile Jali allegedly arrived at training under the influence of alcohol.

Though the club did release any official statement on the news, Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena said players are human and he will support them no matter what, while the player’s agent, Mike Makaab admitted there were “some issues” but they’ve been sorted out.

On Sunday, Mokwena used Mbule as a substitute in the 1-1 stalemate with Stellies, but Khanye questioned whether the player, whom he loves and supports, was in the right state of mind to play on the day.

“I don’t think Sipho Mbule was in the right state of mind to play this game. He came on in the second-half and almost all of his actions were costly,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“He made an error which led to the penalty and that’s how Stellenbosch were able to equalise against Mamelodi Sundowns. I love Sipho Mbule, he is a super talented player.

“Rulani Mokwena should have given Sipho Mbule some time off, especially after the news that was following him.

“He is one of the best players but I think mentally he was not fit. Yes bench him and let him watch because you have enough players.”

Khanye, who himself had several disciplinary issues during his own playing days but has turned his life around after hanging up his boots, also insisted that Mbule must learn from his alleged misbehaviour.

“Sipho Mbule for me has a bright future. He is a star, he knows football but I’m disappointed in him for what he did. I need to be honest,” he added.

“He is human after all but he mustn’t repeat what he did. Other people wouldn’t have gotten away with what he did so I don’t think he was in the right space to be played.”
