Organisers formally unveiled the plans at an exclusive festival launch in Umhlanga on 30 July 2026, setting the stage for what promises to be the biggest lifestyle and cultural gathering in KwaZulu-Natal this year.

eThekwini Shisanyama Festival honours the township legacy

The festival, which celebrates South Africa’s rich culinary traditions, township culture, music, and local entrepreneurship, is expected to attract thousands of festivalgoers from across the country.

It has become a popular annual event, bringing together food lovers, music fans, and small businesses in a vibrant celebration of heritage.

Kelvin, widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the amapiano genre, is expected to deliver a soulful performance featuring many of his chart-topping hits.

His inclusion in the festival line-up is likely to draw a strong turnout, given his reputation for sold-out performances and his growing influence in South Africa’s music scene.

The event itself celebrates more than just a star-studded music festival; the eThekwini Shisanyama Festival serves a much deeper cultural purpose.

It highlights the evolution of independent shisanyamas across Durban and surrounding townships. These neighbourhood braai spots have grown into highly organised commercial enterprises that drive tourism, create jobs, and fuel local economic growth.

Secure your spot

The eThekwini Shisanyama Festival lands as a definitive highlight of Heritage Month, proving that nothing unites South Africans across different cultures quite like the shared spirit of a braai.

The event kicks off at 12pm on Saturday, 26 September 2026, at Berea Rovers, located at 73 Jacko Jackson Drive, Durban.

Tickets are officially live and moving fast. Fans can secure their entry directly via the official Howler Ticket Portal.
