A family friend of Build One South Africa (Bosa) president Mmusi Maimane has severed ties with a company allegedly linked to the politician after their friendship crumbled like COSATU’s 2026 elective conference.
Africa Daily can exclusively reveal that Tania Coenraad has resigned as a director of Phendula Africa (Pty) Ltd, saying she wants nothing to do with the entity.
In a resignation letter dated 17 June 2026 and addressed to the entity’s board of directors, Coenraad said she was leaving the company with immediate effect, as she had no active operational, management or governance role.
Coenraad said her appointment as a director was made at the request of the company’s leadership, including Mmusi Maimane.
She said that since her appointment, she had not participated in the company’s management, governance, financial administration or day-to-day operations.
“I have not participated in the management, governance, financial administration or day-to-day operations of the company, nor have I exercised executive authority or decision-making powers on behalf of the company,” she said in the letter.
Coenraad stressed that her resignation should not be interpreted as stemming from a disagreement over the affairs of the company.
“My resignation should not be construed as arising from any disagreement concerning the affairs of the company,” she said.
Instead, she said the decision was driven by her desire to withdraw from a position in which she had not played an active role.
Coenraad asked the company to take all necessary steps to formally record and lodge her resignation with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) without delay.
She also requested written confirmation once the relevant filings had been completed.
In addition, she asked to be removed from all company records, mandates, authorities and representations linked to her appointment as a director.
“I wish the company well in its future endeavours,” she said.
Coenraad served the entity withy divorce papers after he fall out with Maimane , after he participated in a meeting that pink slipped her as Chief of Staff on 5 June this year.
After being dismissed, Coenraad dragged BOSA to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) in Cap Town for unfair dismissal.
In the letter which her lawyers, Patton Williamson Inc sent to BOSA on 11 June 2026, Coenraad provides a detailed account of the events surrounding her departure.
According to the lawyers, Coenraad joined BOSA on or about 1 February 2024 and subsequently worked under a series of fixed-term arrangements.
Her most recent contract appointed her as Chief of Staff from 1 July 2024 until 30 June 2026, at a gross monthly remuneration of R60 000.
They said Coenraad attended a performance-review feedback discussion on or about 5 June, initially attended by Maimane, BOSA deputy leader and Joburg Mayorla Candidate Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster and HR consultant Phindile Msomi.
The lawyers said the feedback during the first session was, in material respects, positive and included recognition of Coenraad’s stakeholder engagement, parliamentary coordination, donor relations, organisational systems development and contribution to key strategic processes.
However, when the discussion resumed at approximately 2pm that day, Coenraad was allegedly informed that her contract would not be renewed.
She was allegedly asked to begin handing over her responsibilities and told that she could reapply for the position if it was advertised.
Coenraad declined to comment, saying the matter is sub judice.
Maimane couldnt be reached for comment at the time of publication.
