Dr. Kaizer Motaung and Dr. Irvin Khoza have both sent messages to Banyana Banyana after their triumph at the Women’s African Cup of Nations.
Banyana beat Morocco 2-1 in the 2022 WAFCON final in Rabat, Morocco in front of over 45 000 fans at the Prince Moulay Stadium.
They became only the third team to lift the African crown, following record champions Nigeria, who have lifted nine WAFCON titles, Equatorial Guinea, who have won two.
Banyana’s triumph was celebrated all over South Africa, with Premier Soccer League and Orlando Pirates chairman sending a message to SAFA president Dr. Danny Jordaan.
“Today you can show sponsors SASOL dividend payout for their good corporate citizenry and their trust in you. Extend my good wishes to the coach (Desiree Ellis), technical staff, head of delegation and most importantly the players. Well done to everyone,’’ said Dr Khoza, as per SAFA.
Chiefs chairman, Dr. Motaung added: “Congratulations to everyone, especially coach Ellis, for a job well done.”
Amakhosi had already wished Banyana well ahead of the final, when Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung visited the girls in camp last week Thursday.
South Africa President, Cyril Ramaphosa also expressed his gratitude towards Banyana, taking to social media to praise the achievement.
Banyana are expected back in South Africa at 9:30 on Tuesday morning, when they will be welcomed at OR Tambo airport, with fans invited to join the party.
