Kaizer Chiefs predicted starting XI against Orlando Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs head into Saturday’s Soweto Derby looking to end their long wait for a league victory over arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

Amakhosi last defeated the Buccaneers in a league meeting in February 2023.

Although Chiefs beat Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final, they have struggled against their rivals in the league, failing to register a win in their last six meetings while suffering five defeats.

The Glamour Boys, however, head into this season’s derby looking rejuvenated and will be eager to turn their improved performances into a positive result.

Fernando Da Cruz is expected to approach the encounter cautiously, with Chiefs likely to adopt a defensive setup and look to hurt Pirates on the counter-attack.

How Kaizer Chiefs could line up against Orlando Pirates

Brandon Petersen is expected to return between the posts after his absence, providing experience and stability in goal.

Reeve Frosler is likely to occupy the right-back position, while Bradley Cross could start on the opposite side. Miguel Inacio is also expected to return to the starting lineup after being rested for the Carling Knockout clash against TS Galaxy.

In defence, Thabo Moloisane could partner Zitha Kwinika, with Chiefs potentially deploying a three-man defensive setup to contain Pirates’ attacking threat.

In midfield, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Lebohang Maboe are expected to provide defensive cover and help Kaizer Chiefs compete for possession in the middle of the park.

Wandile Duba could operate on the wing, using his pace and direct running to trouble the Pirates defence on counter-attacks. Mduduzi Shabalala is likely to occupy the number 10 role, where his creativity and ability to carry the ball could prove important.

Up front, Flavio Silva could lead the attack as Chiefs look to make the most of their opportunities.

Da Cruz will know that his side cannot afford to give Pirates too much space, especially with the Buccaneers enjoying a strong run of form under Abdeslam Ouaddou.

A disciplined defensive performance and clinical finishing could be key if Amakhosi are to end their league hoodoo against their biggest rivals.

Kaizer Chiefs predicted lineup: Petersen, Frosler, Kwinika, Moloisane, Miguel, Cross, Mthethwa, Maboe, Shabalala, Duba
