Kaizer Chiefs legend backs Rele Mofokeng to set World Cup alight

Kaizer Chiefs legend Reneilwe Letsholonyane has backed Relebohile Mofokeng to come right at the FIFA World Cup.

The 21-year-old winger has been one of the best PSL players in the past few seasons but is yet to take his form to Bafana Bafana.

This season, Mofokeng has scored 11 goals across all competitions and provided nine assists.

“For Rele, expectations are very high,” Letsholonyane told Soccer Laduma.

“He’s done well for his team and I feel that he still has a lot to do, especially in the national team.

“He’s sort of not the same player, but even at the level he is, he has been doing well.”

Mofokeng to play in his second major tournament

Mofokeng featured in the 2025 AFCON, where he played two games. Bafana bowed out in the round of 16 in the last tournament but will need a better performance at the World Cup if they are to reach the knockout stage.

Besides Mofokeng, Yeye Letsholonyane has also highlighted the experience of the likes of Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena.

“Leadership of guys like Teboho [Mokoena] and [Khuliso] Mudau will be very important, Ronwen [Williams] too.

“They are experienced more than most of the players.

“Ime Okon is young and is new in the setup. [Mbekezeli] Mbokazi is still young and fairly new in the setup.

“He is doing well where he is playing [in the MLS], but it does not change the fact that he is young for that level.”

Mofokeng is one of the youngest players in the squad alongside Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

Who will perform better?
