Former Orlando Pirates attacker Justin Shonga has shared some advice on how Fortune Makaringe can have a change of fortune in order to enjoy regular game time at the club.
Makaringe has been struggling for game time in 2022/23 DStv Premiership season with only eight appearances in league.
And most of Makaringe’s appearances were from the bench, as he has only started in four matches.
The attacker has evidently has fallen down the pecking order at Pirates since the arrival of head coach Jose Riveiro.
Riveiro prefers to start attacking maestro Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo with Miguel Timm in central midfield.
The 29-year old Makaringe joined Pirates from Maritzburg United at the start of the 2019/20 season.
This was after he helped the club reach the 2019 Nedbank Cup final which they subsequently lost to Free State Stars.
Despite being one of the key players for the Soweto giants in the last three season, Makaringe has fallen out of favour at Pirates.
He racked up 40 appearances in Pirates colours in the previous campaign in all competitions,
JUSTIN SHONGA’S ADVICE TO FORTUNE MAKARINGE
“Fortune Makaringe is a very good player,” Shonga told FARPost.
“Sometimes in football we don’t get what we deserve but what comes our way. I believe Makaringe’s time will come at Pirates.
“I know the type of quality player Makaringe is and my advice for me will be to just keep on working.
“Pirates have lot of quality players in every department. So as a player you must know that you will have to work hard to be recognized,” he added.
‘Maestro’ as he’s famously known faces tough competition in the Pirates midfield position.
Timm, Ndlondlo, Thabang Monare, Ben Motshwari, Goodman Mosele and newly signed Makhehleni Makhaula are all fighting for a starting berth.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers have been marred by inconsistently as they struggle to find a winning formula.
Pirates have 10 wins, four draws four and eight defeats after 22 games played in the Premiership.
The Sea Robbers, in third place on the log have accumulated 34 points and managed to score 21 goals in the process.
