Jampies: Baroka was a Test

Cheslyn Jampies has opened up about his time at Baroka, which he described as a personal test. 

The 31-year-old left Baroka last year to join Sekhukhune United, but has now been released by the club and is a free agent.

Jampies had helped Baroka survive relegation in 2020 under the tutelage of former head coach Dylan Kerr, but says things went south the following season.

He also opened up about when the Players Union took Baroka to the PSL DRC.  

“My time at Baroka was more of a test to myself, to see how I handle being away from everything valuable in my life. I wanted to stamp my authority again in the top flight,” the former Santos FC left back told iDiski Times. 

“As things started unfolding, I of course started seeing that when you fire a coach like Dylan Kerr and replace him with the assistant at the time, things were not so stable at the club. Yes we managed to save the team from relegation but we still lacked a lot in planning and approach, until coach Vincent Kobola came in and brought his expertise to the game.”

Jampies then explained what actually happened with his PSL DRC case involving Baroka.

“I really don’t know I would lie if I told you what happened but before my trial I warned the Players Union about certain concerns and why players are afraid to come to them,” said the former Uthongathi player.

“I also made mention that they should start keeping track of certain things. I heard we had a strong case and then I heard it was dismissed. All that was left was for them to give a verdict.

Cheslyn went on to explain his side of the story and the situation he found himself in. 

“If you are not allowed to miss a welcome back meeting for your sick mother who got Covid at the time. Which automatically means I need to be isolated for 15 days but I still dropped my mother at hospital and lost a family member that day. I flew back, only to be suspended. 

“I am thousands of miles away from her, my father was out on business, so I was the only one around. Today my mother is living on a tank to help her breathe, sent the club doctor a message, Sent the team manager a message, Sent all three coaches the same message and had all the proof at my trial so if you understand what I’m saying then it should be clear what I’m getting at but yeah that’s what happened and never ever in my career have I missed work.”
