Media personality Somizi Mhlongo has officially added fashion designer to his belt with his first fashion show.

The former Idols SA judge recently showcased his new fashion range, Sompire Femme, at the Durban Fashion Fair, where new and established designers showcased their talent. Somizi has proven that he is a jack of all trades when he showcased his stunning designs on the runway.

The media personality does not have a professional background in designing clothes, but he had the entire hall on their feet when his garments hit the stage.

Somizi Mhlongo drew inspiration from his heritage when he came up with the line for DFF. He revealed that his father is from KwaMashu, making KZN the perfect place to debut his ancestor-inspired collection. He presented bold prints and silhouettes with his fashion collection. The pieces were designed for women who are powerful, elegant and unashamedly unique. As he created the line for the theme The Awakening,  Somizi showcased unique textiles featuring eye-catching print.

In the videos shared on social media platforms, he paid tribute to his late mother Mary Twala, before his models walked on stage. He had celebrities like Mihlali Ndamase, Zola Mhlongo, Bahumi Mhlongo, Minnie Dlamini and Baby Cele model his designs at the fashion fair.

Instagram users weighed in:

One user said: “I’d definitely cry too if my daughter is the show stopper and my dad or mom’s picture is in the background.”

Another one said: “Wow I have never met a person that can be so talented at everything. Well done Sir Somizi. I watched you grow up and you are an incredibly talented being.”

While another one said: “Congratulations. God bless the work of your hands”
