Idols AS season 18 is here, and Mzansi is joyful about the season as they see new judges’ faces. The reality singing competition is one of the most viewed shows in Mzansi. However, after the airing of Idols SA season, 18 Twitter users have been trolling its judges for being uneducated. Well, education does not always make one successful; sometimes, one needs to discover their talent and gifts to be successful. There is no one path to success, and Somizi and Thembi have proved that education is not the only path to victory.

Many believe that education is the key to success, but they are other South African celebrities who have made it without education. Some couldn’t go to school for different reasons, but they still became super successful and made some serious cash along the way. It will be a sin to talk about outstanding entertainers in Mzansi without bringing Somizi into the equation. He is a superstar who has a cabinet of awards as a testament to his skills. Although Somizi is a phenomenal entertainer, he doesn’t have matric and nothing much is known about his education.

Somizi Mhlongo was born in Soweto to the late South African actress Mary Twala and actor and comedian Ndaba Mhlongo. His parents were iconic entertainers and introduced their son to the industry when he was young. Somizi started acting when he was 13, appearing in the film Scavengers in 1987. He was thrust into the limelight when he played the role of  Fire but was nicknamed “Whacko in Sarafina. Since his role in Sarafina, Somizi took the entertainment industry by storm, showing no signs of slowing down.

Actress Thembi Seete was born in Soweto, and her father died when she was a teenager. She then moved to Sebokeng in the Vaal, where she stayed with her aunt and uncle. Although Thembi is a phenomenal entertainer, there is no history of her educational qualifications. She is the epitome of dynamite that comes in small packages, her body is small, yet she is a megastar entertainer.

Her musical journey marked her road to fame after being part of the kwaito Boom Shaka group. She went solo after the group split in 2000 after being formed in 1994. After being a solo singer, Thembi discovered her calling in acting for years, and we can all agree that she is a great actress after slaying her role on Gomora, where she plays Gladys.
