Siphelele Mthembu, a former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker experienced one of the best periods of his career while playing for Platinum Stars. During this time, he chose to abstain from romantic relationships.

Pretoria Callies striker Siphelele Mthembu attributes his best career seasons to playing for the now-defunct Platinum Stars in Rustenburg. According to Mthembu, he was most focused and disciplined during this period, and he credits the environment, diet, and group prayer and worship for his success.

He also maintained abstinence from dating during this time. ‘The reason I played my best football at Platinum was the environment, diet, praying and worshipping God together,’ Mthembu told FARPost.

“So the reason I played my best football at Platinum was the environment, diet, praying and worshipping God together,“Also, the bunch of players willing to work for each other. Personally, I went two years just focusing on training, eating healthy, sleeping well and recovering.

“I was just focused because I wasn’t playing before I moved to Platinum Stars.

“I made sure I didn’t have a girlfriend for two years to keep my body fresh and recover quickly.

“So my thoughts were good, my energy was also good. I had good players like Robert Ng’ambi, Mogakolodi Ngele, Benson Mhlongo and Vuyo Mere,” the former Chiefs number nine added.

Message to youngsters

Siphelele Mthembu has issued a warning to up-and-coming players to avoid certain behaviours, including the use of multi. In an interview with respected local football journalist Mahlatsi Mphahlele, Mthembu advised young players to steer clear of unhealthy eating habits, ignorance, and reliance on muti. He emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication and cautioned against becoming dependent on ‘the muti guy.
