Hunt – They Know They Stuffed This Up

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt says they should have been coming into the DStv Premiership season finale with CAF Champions League football secured.

Over the past few weeks Hunt has lamented their dip in from heading to the back end of the season as well as missing three penalties, which could have added a further six points to their tally in his first season within his second stint at the club.

With SuperSport and Orlando Pirates only separated by two goals, heading into the final game of the season, he admitted it’s going to be a rollercoaster end to their campaign.

“Anything can happen next week… I can’t really say what I want to say, for me, it would be personally, it would be a huge disappointment [not to get CAF Champions League football],” Hunt said before opening up why he wants to be in the competition next season.

“They know we’ve stuffed this thing up, they know I could have played next week, Grant [Johnson] could have played, Andre [Arendse] could have played and not be worried about the consequences, but we’ll go into the game and give it our best shot.

“We’ll be short of players with one or two suspensions again, so for me, I think the Champions League is a good space, we can use this young crop of Diski players, use a few of them at times and build with them, better players, better human beings.

“It will make them tougher and let’s go in that space. I don’t know if we are the club to be there but I enjoy that space, I love it, I really do.”

Matsatsansa travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium for the final game against Nedbank Cup finalists Sekhukhune United.
