Hunt Opens Up On Potential Parker Move

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has hailed former Kaizer Chiefs captain Bernard Parker who’s currently aiming to land a contract with Matsatsantsa.

Parker, 36, was released by Chiefs last month after 11 years of service at the club and despite being offered a role within the club, he expressed his desire to continue his professional career.

The former Chiefs captain holds legendary status at Amakhosi but proved to be a much-maligned figure amongst the supporters towards the latter stages of his stay, as he became somewhat of the scapegoat for their trophy drought as the leader of the team – despite earning constant praise from management and teammates alike.

Parker has since joined up with former Amakhosi coach Hunt upon his second coming at Matsatsansa, who admits he’s been impressed by what he’s seen from the veteran attacker who’s been converted into a deeper midfield role in recent years.

“Bernard is training with us, obviously I’m trying to do something if I can, I think he’s a fantastic player but obviously that’s something we’ll see. Nothing has been signed or anything yet,” Hunt said.

“Besides the quality as a player, he’s fantastic. He’s shown in the last two or three days in training that he’s still got it. I think in that position we need somebody but obviously, nothing has been signed or sealed yet.”

Parker is the second highest goal scorer in Bafana Bafana history with 23 goals in 72 caps, only behind the likes of Katelgo Mphela and Benni McCarthy.
