South African rapper Cassper Nyovest was swindled of R22 000 by scammers while he was chilling at a swanky hotel in Sandton, Joburg.
The publication can now reveal that the crime happened at Hotel Sky in Sandton on Monday, 16 May.
According to police sources, Cassper, whose real name is Refiloe Phoolo, opened a case of fraud at the Sandton cop shop after the moolah disappeared from his account.
“The complainant alleges that on 16 May 2022 at about 12:00, he was at Hotel Sky, Corner Maude and West streets, Sandown, Sandton, when he noticed that his bank card was used at the hotel without his knowledge and was defrauded an amount of R22 000,” read the police statement, in part.
The entrepreneur and songwriter posted about the crime on Twitter, exactly two weeks after the incident.
The I Hope You Bought It and Doc Shebeleza hitmaker didn’t, however, disclose the amount or the modus operandi at the time.
Cassper was not available for comment.
His manager, Tshepo “Spike” Seone, told the publication he didn’t know anything about the case.
Ignatious Mambinge, the hotel’s general manager, told the publication he has no idea about the incident.
“It was not reported to the hotel that his card was used without his permission,” Mambinge said.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenan-Colonel Mavela Masondo, confirmed that a case of fraud was opened.
“Police can confirm that a case of fraud was opened at the Sandton Police Station. It was opened on 27 May 2022. No arrest has been made yet and the investigation is continuing.”
