Robert Redford, the iconic Oscar-winning actor and director, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home near Provo, Utah, on Tuesday morning. He was 89 years old.

Robert Redford’s publicist, Cindi Berger, confirmed the news to The New York Times but did not reveal the cause of death.

Born Charles Robert Redford Jr. in 1936, the actor studied at the Pratt Institute and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, according to Page Six.

His career began in 1959 on Broadway with Tall Story before moving to film in 1960. He shot to fame in classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid alongside Paul Newman, capturing hearts globally.

He is survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, his two daughters, Shauna and Amy with his ex-wife, Lola Van Wagenen, and seven grandchildren. Two sons, Scott and James, have passed away; James died from liver cancer in 2020.
