United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader, Bantu Holomisa has commended the South African government following yesterday’s decision by the International Court of Justice.
The court in The Hague, in the Netherlands, ruled that Israel must take all measures to prevent genocidal acts in Gaza. However, it stopped short of ordering an immediate halt to military operations.
SA-Israel genocide case | South Africa welcomes ICJ decision:
South Africa took up the plight of Palestine by urging action against Israel at the ICJ. Holimisa says he hopes the United Nations (UN) Security Council will endorse the ruling.
“I hope that Biden will now instruct his representative in the UN Security Council to approve or endorse the resolution which was intended to ask Israel to get into a ceasefire with Hamas.”
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation noted the ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) a milestone in the search for justice for the Palestinian people.
The department said the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will now be formally notified of the court’s order.
The court ordered Israel to prevent as many killings of civilians in Gaza and to allow humanitarian aid.
