In the build-up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has revised the fixture for Hollywoodbets Super League.

The rules say, if a team has three or more players called up to the national team their club’s fixture is postponed. This means that defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, JVW FC, University of Western Cape (UWC) and rookies University of Pretoria (Tuks) will not be taking part in the catch-up matches this weekend.

But three round 18 catch-up fixtures will be played this weekend, two matches on Saturday when Durban Ladies take on Richmond United at the Sugar Ray Xulu stadium (13:00) and Royal AM host Copperbelt Ladies at the Mpumalanga stadium (15:00). On Sunday, Thunderbirds Ladies play Coal City Wizards at the Sisa Dukashe stadium (15:00).

There will be three matches next week as well for round 19 and the last batch of four games scheduled for the weekend of 1 July that will close off for the World Cup recess. However, there could be more matches on that weekend after Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis will announce her final World Cup squad, with the global showpiece set to start on the 20 July- 20 August in Australia and New Zealand.

With the Varsity Cup and COSAFA Women’s Championships starting on 13 and 23 August, respectively, the Association has made further provisions to accommodate the Varsity clubs and the national team.

There will be one catch-up match on the first weekend of August, and further on 23 August for round 19 and on 26 August three games for round 20.

The full league is expected to resume on 2 September with everyone starting week 21.
