Former Orlando Pirates captain Thulani Hlatshwayo has revealed what club chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza told him in their final meeting before he left the Buccaneers.

Hlatshwayo, 32, left Pirates on his own request earlier this window after a tough second season at Orlando Stadium.

He has since joined up with his former coach Gavin Hunt at SuperSport United but opened up about his Pirates exit in an exclusive interview with iDiski Times Velile Mnyandu, in edition 63 of the newspaper.

When asked about his final meeting with Irvin Khoza, ‘Tyson’ revealed the club chairman gave him his blessings to leave.

“[He told me] there are players who would sweat blood and tears but are not being given what they deserve for their labour, for their contribution,” Hlatshwayo recalled.

“But you must count yourself lucky and you will always be a Buccaneer, as they say Once and Always. I agree with you, I can see you, I’ve heard about you, I’ve heard your reports in the team, never been late always there supporting the guys, fighting.

“Playing friendly games even if you play against Pele-Pele you are not being cocky and everything. The report is not only from the first team coaches but all the development coaches.

“There is something that they have all said about you and I’m giving you, my blessings. Go work hard. Go out there, go enjoy the football, we will talk.”

Hlatshwayo reunited with Gavin Hunt after both worked at Bidvest Wits between 2014 and 2020, winning the league title as well as the Telkom-Knock Out trophy.

He’s made over 300 domestic appearances and captained Bafana Bafana with just over 30 caps under his belt.
