The Mbombela mayor says Hillary Gardee’s death should not be in vain.
A candle-lit prayer meeting was held on Friday at the family home ahead of her funeral.
Gardee was found murdered outside Mbombela on Tuesday after she’d gone missing several days earlier.
She is the daughter of former EFF official Godrich Gardee.
“To Hillary, where she is, your death should not be in vain. She was such a sweet little child,” said mayor Sibongile Makushe.
“This must end. GBV must end. We can not continue dying like flies in this country of ours. As women, we don’t feel safe in houses anymore.”
