  • Vusimuzi Matlala has had judgment reserved by the Johannesburg High Court in his appeal to overturn the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court’s denial of bail.
  • The businessman faces serious charges, including attempted murder and conspiracy to murder, stemming from an alleged plot against his former partner.
  • Matlala will remain in custody while the High Court deliberates on whether the lower court erred in deeming him a flight risk and danger to society.

The Johannesburg High Court has reserved judgment in the bail appeal of businessman Vusimuzi Matlala.

Matlala, who faces charges including attempted murder and conspiracy to murder in connection with the alleged plot against his former partner, Tebogo Thobejane, is attempting to overturn the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court’s decision to deny him bail.

The Magistrate’s Court had previously ruled that Matlala was a flight risk and a potential danger to society.

Following arguments from both the defence and the State on Monday, the High Court judge opted to reserve the ruling.

Matlala will remain in custody pending the court’s final decision.
