  • Motorists have been warned to expect significant traffic disruptions in Orlando, Soweto, ahead of Saturday’s Betway Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and Durban City FC.
  • Several major roads will be affected, with closures set to begin from 10:30am.
  • JMPD officers will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure safety around Orlando Stadium.

Motorists have been warned of significant traffic disruptions expected in Orlando, Soweto, on Saturday, 16 May 2026.

The disruptions are linked to the Betway Premiership fixture between Orlando Pirates FC and Durban City FC.

To ensure public safety and maintain order, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers will be deployed at key intersections to facilitate traffic flow around the Orlando Stadium precinct.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said road closures will come into effect from 10:30am on Saturday.

Heavy traffic is expected along the following routes:

  • N17
  • Soweto Highway
  • Klipspruit Valley Road
  • Martha Louw Street
  • Mooki Street
  • Sofasonke Street
  • Kumalo Main Road

“To ensure a universal sense of safety and security, Klipspruit Valley Road will be converted into a one-way street running from Martha Louw Street towards the N17 traffic circle,” said Fihla.

Alternative routes and parking

Alternative routes

Motorists are encouraged to use Ballende, Masopha and Sofasonke streets as alternatives to Mooki Street, or make use of the broader Soweto Highway network where closures are not in effect.

Spectator parking locations

Parking will be available at:

  • Corner of Martha Louw and Klipspruit Valley Road (open space)
  • Shomane High School
  • AB Quma Primary School (Scott Street)
  • Lofentse Girls High School (Mooki Street)
  • Zithathele Primary School (Mooki Street)
  • Leratong Primary School
  • Orlando High School
  • Selelekela High School (Mooki Street)
  • Lereche Primary School (Adams Street)
  • Orlando Court (Mooki Street)

Parking inside Orlando Stadium will be strictly reserved for VIPs, media personnel and VOC members.

Event logistics

  • Gates open: 11:00am
  • Kick-off: 3:00pm

JMPD has urged spectators to arrive early to avoid congestion at entry gates and requested residents to remain patient during the event.

Motorists are advised to plan their routes in advance to minimise delays.
