Last month, Uzalo actress, Gugu Gumede had a pleasant surprise for her followers when she announced that she was expecting her first child.

Taking to her Instagram page to share the good news, the 30-year-old posted a picture of herself cradling her growing baby bump while dressed in a black custom-designed Indoni Fashion House dress.

In the caption, she quoted a bible verse and said her child was her late mother’s answered prayer.

“…My baby, you are your grandmother’s answered prayer. She was so excited to meet you, even though you did not get to meet in the physical realm. I know she is currently holding you in the spiritual. My darling, every move and every kick of yours within me is a testament of both God and my mother’s continued love for me. You have changed me in ways that are inexplicable. We cannot wait to meet you,” she wrote.

Speaking to TRUELOVE, the actress says that she was very excited when she found out about her pregnancy.
“My partner and I had been trying for a child and we were very lucky to conceive on our first try,” she reveals.

Gugu also says that because she knows her body so well, by the time she had decided to take a pregnancy test, she was already certain that it would be positive.

“I noticed that I wasn’t getting the symptoms I normally get right before my period, such as the normal PMSing which happens each month. So I figured that something was up and when the month ended without me getting my period, I took a test and it confirmed that I was really pregnant,” she says excitedly.

Although her pregnancy journey has been enjoyable, she recalls how devastated she was when her mother – former Member of Parliament and National Freedom Party (NFP) leader, Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi – passed away when she was just four months into her pregnancy.

“My mother left us when I was four months pregnant. I was very sad about this and even lost weight because as a new mother, I will be needing a lot of guidance from my mother. I sometimes have a lot of questions about pregnancy which I would have loved for her to answer,” she says before saying that she believes her mother will look after her child in the spiritual realm.

“It’s just the order of life, when a new life is formed, another one is lost. However, I am comforted by the fact that I know that my mother will be with us in spirit and in everything we do. And I’m so blessed to still be surrounded by a loving support structure in the form of my partner, friends and family members,” she continues.

Gugu who is not yet ready to share the gender of her unborn child says that she has named her baby and believes she’s chosen the best name.

“I think I chose the perfect name for our child because it is such a prophetic name. Because the child will be taking their father’s last name, he gave me free rein to name the child and I’m so excited to share the name once our little one is born,” she says.
