Motorists will get some relief at the pumps this month, following a significant price decrease confirmed for both petrol and diesel.
Both grades of petrol have decreased by 65 cents per litre, while diesel is set to fall by between 50 and 57 cents a litre.
Illuminating paraffin at the retail level will decrease by 70 cents per litre, while LP gas will increase by 31 cents countrywide and 36 cents in the Western Cape.
Spokesperson for the Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Robert Make, confirmed that these prices will take effect on Wednesday, 04 February 2026.
The main reasons for these adjustments are as follows: the rand appreciated against the US dollar during the period under review, cushioning fuel prices by between 28 and 32 cents a litre.
The average international petroleum product prices also decreased due to the availability of inventory, despite crude oil prices increasing during the same period, he said.
This will bring the price of 95 Unleaded down to around R19.27 at the coast and R20.10 in Gauteng, where the cheaper 93 Unleaded will retail for R19.99, the lowest petrol price since January 2022.
The wholesale price of 50ppm diesel will reduce to R17.19 at the coast and R17.95 inland.
