GladAfrica Championship Round-Up – iDiski Times

Jomo Cosmos’ relegation was confirmed this weekend, but the battle for the GladAfrica Championship title is still far from being decided after leaders Richards Bay could only manage a draw.

Pitso Dladla’s Bay team slipped up with a 2-2 draw against KZN neighbours Uthongathi on Friday, allowing AmaTuks to gain ground again. The other Friday game between Platinum City Rovers and Free State Stars also finished with a 2-2 scoreline.

AmaTuks’ 1-0 victory over Venda Football Academy saw them join Richards Bay on 50 points, but are still second on goal difference, with Bay having +16, while Tuks are +14.

Pretoria Callies moved one step closer to safety as they beat Polokwane City 2-0, and the result meant the end of the road for Jomo Cosmos.

Cosmos drew 1-1 with TS Sporting, but had not only needed a win, they had needed Callies not to, if they were to stand any chance of survival.

After 39 years in professional football Jomo Sono’s team have been relegated to the regional ABC Motsepe Leagues.

Sporting remain in the relegation zone in 15th position on 28 points, three from safety with two games to go.

On Sunday Hungry Lions moved on to 34 points and closer to ensuring their status for the season, as they beat JDR Stars 2-0. Another disappointing result for JDR, who are still in the race for a playoff spot, but are two points behind third-placed Cape Town All Stars

Meanwhile Black Leopards scored late to beat Cape Town Spurs 2-1. 10th-placed Leopards are now safe from relegation, while Spurs are 13th on 31 points

14th-placed Tshakhuma, who are also on 31 points, face a tough game in Cape Town on Tuesday, when they take on Cape Town All Stars.
