Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has opened up on facing his former side, TS Galaxy, in a DStv Premiership encounter on Sunday [15:00] at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
Msimango joined Chiefs as one of the marquee players ahead of the new season from TS Galaxy, a club he used to captain.
The 26-year-old spent three seasons between 2020/21 to 2022/23 at Galaxy, establishing himself as a top defender in the PSL.
The centre-back has hit the ground running in Naturena, cementing his place in the starting line-up playing alongside Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. So far, he has featured in Chiefs’ first three matches in all competitions.
‘IT IS GOING TO BE EMPTIONAL’: GIVEN MSIMANGO
According to Msimango, it’s going to be emotional facing his former side. However, he plans to put in a good performance to ensure Chiefs walk away with all three points
“That’s where emotional intelligence comes into it. Obviously, it’s emotional to play against your former employers, people that gave you a platform and opportunities to shine at the highest level of South African football, the PSL,” said Msimango.
“But I have to keep that in check and focus on the task at hand. I need to do a job for my current employers, which is Kaizer Chiefs, my new family and help them get maximum points.”
GIVEN MSIMANGO ON TS GALAXY SQUAD DEPTH
The Mbombela outfit was one of the busy teams during the transfer window. They lost many key players, however, brought in new talent.
Ahead of the Sunday showdown, Msimango anticipates a difficult encounter.
“They have had a lot of changes, like any other team. They lost a few key players last season, but the players they have brought in have kept up the quality, and the team is playing well. We just need to go there and win and make our supporters happy,” he added.
