Get to Know Humile Mjongile, Paul Mashatile’s new wife

South Africa’s newly appointed Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, has found love again after the tragic loss of his wife, Manzi Ellen Mashatile, two years ago. Last Saturday, Mashatile paid lobola for his fiancée, Humile Mjongile, marking a significant step in their journey towards marriage. Here is all you need to know about South Africa’s new second lady, Humile Mjongile.

1. Humile Mjongile, previously known as Humile Bogatsu, was born in Johannesburg and became Humile Mjongile after her marriage in 2011 to the former ANC Western Cape Secretary, Songezo Mjongile, who died in 2020 after a long battle with colon cancer.
2. She has a brother named Tebogo who walked her down the aisle in 2011.
3. Humile Mjongile is a mother of two children, a son named Zondwa Songezo Jnr and a daughter named Goapele Zenani Mjongile.
4. She previously worked as the personal assistant of Athletics South Africa (ASA) boss, Leonard Cheune, and was once spotted licking his fingers at a party. Cheune used ASA funds to bribe a former staff member to keep quiet about his affair with Humile.
5. When she married Songezo Mjongile in 2011, Humile Mjongile ran a security company in Cape Town. A year after her husband’s death, she launched a cancer foundation in his honour called the Songezo Mjongile Foundation.
6. She is 37 years old according to Zimoja, which makes her 24 years younger than South Africa’s new deputy president Paul Mashatile.

Mashatile, a prominent ANC politician, sent emissaries to Humile Mjongile’s home in Leondale, Johannesburg, for lobola negotiations. His young brother Ncane Mashatile led the delegation that comprised eight men.

Meanwhile, Paul Mashatile stands accused of fraud and perjury, but the ANC has spoken up in his defence. ANC North West member Sello Molefe accused Mashatile of lying under oath and misleading the North West High Court so that it ruled in ANC’s favour.
